Mediation is a confidential and voluntary method for discussing problems and exploring solutions with the help of a trained neutral third party. Mediators help parties communicate clearly and negotiate effectively. With the assistance of a mediator, participants identify issues, clarify perceptions and explore options for a mutually acceptable outcome. Mediators do not make decisions about resolutions, impose solutions or offer legal advice. Mediation can be used for inter-family conflicts, family court matters, co-parenting issues, small claims court cases, and non-court issues such as neighbor disputes and noise complaints. Mediation is fair, saves participants time and money, effective and empowering.    ACCORD also operates the CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) Program, which provides children at risk or experiencing abuse or neglect advocacy and a voice in family court and in the community. ACCORD is a 503(c) not for profit and services are available in Broome & Tioga counties.  New volunteer applications and donors always welcome!
